When it comes to color, sometimes you have to go big or go home. Mixing chartreuse and neon pink is an unexpected favorite of mine.

And how gorgeous are those Proenza pumps?! I snagged them at the Sak's consolidation sale for a real bargain price and I could not be happier with them. There's nothing like a glittering pair of shoes to brighten up the day. Seriously. I highly recommend it.

P.S: How exciting is it that I finally dressed weather-appropriate? ;)

I've never considered myself as much of a dare-devil, but according to the New York Times, I'm living on the edge.

So according to the article, "A Scientific Look at the Dangers of High Heels," women who are habitual heel-wearers are causing long-term damage to their feet and leg muscles. In fact, women that wear heels regularly are generally less efficient walkers even when we don't have heels on!

“In a person who wears heels most of her working week,” Dr. Cronin says, the foot and leg positioning in heels “becomes the new default position for the joints and the structures within. Any change to this default setting,” he says, like pulling on Keds or Crocs, constitutes “a novel environment, which could increase injury risk.”

Could y'all really imagine me in Crocs? ;)

It finally got cold here in the Bay area. I was pretty bummed out to have to break out the winter wear. But luckily, this red coat was ready in my closet to cheer me up from the winter blues. (Side note: Old Navy has some really cute stuff lately. Trust me.)

Notice the two randos in the background in the first picture? They were very puzzled at why Aaron was laying in the grass. I can't say I blame them.

Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2012

For the Alexander McQueen's pre-fall collection, Sarah Burton drew inspiration from the Victorian era. It certainly showed in the details, from the luxe damask prints to the leather corseted belts and hardcore lace-up boots. I especially loved Burton's interpretation of cocktail and evening wear—the edgy details beautifully offset the girly silhouettes. I'm hoping to see that last floral printed gown on the red carpet sometime soon. (Isn't it totally gorgeous a la Zoe Saldana in Armani Prive at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival?)

I'd expected this Oscar de la Renta dress to make it to the Golden Globes, but Minka beat me to the punch by wearing it to the Elysium Heaven Gala. She wore it sans embellished belt but she made up for it with that impossibly gorgeous wavy hair.

An Update: Fashion Week Scheduling

The Fashion Week councils have decided to stop the girl fight and play nice after all.

New York and London have both agreed to move up their dates for the September 2012 shows, with New York Fashion Week taking place from Sept. 6 through 13th, and London Fashion Week following from Sept. 14 through Sept. 18.

The fashion world was in a tizzy when the Milan council shifted their dates, essentially forcing editors to have to decide their allegiance to specific cities and designers.

CFDA's CEO said, “We’ve been back and forth on this. People are anxious and need to know the dates. There’s no value for the cities to compete. In the spirit of working together, London and New York are in agreement that we will go in the earlier period, but with the hope that the four cities will come out of this confusion and work together to plan future show weeks. We need to begin to look at the fashion season not as individual fashion weeks, but very much as a global business.”

The four fashion capitals have yet to come to a consensus on dates for the 2013 and 2014 seasons so...let the cat fight continue!

Damn, there were some hot looks at this year's Golden Globes. Here were my top 5 favs!

1. Emma Stone in Lanvin: Emma's face says it all. And she's saying, Yeah bitches. This is how you bring it. This Lanvin gown worked perfectly with Emma's figure. It was award show-glamorous without looking too over-the-top. Sheer perfection.

2. Zooey Deschanel in Prada: I might be biased in making this choice considering that I find Zooey Deschanel completely and utterly adorable. I expected to see her in a retro fit-and-flare dress, so I'm happy that she opted for a more glamorous and sexy look. The bodice on this Prada dress is to-die-for.

3. Evan Rachel Wood in Gucci: Talk about a showstopper, ERW. This custom Gucci gown walked amazingly on the red carpet. Those are real feathers on that skirt! I especially loved the juxtaposition of the uber glam gown with Evan's short 'do.

4. Natalie Portman in Lanvin: I was very anxious to see Natalie in her first major appearance since the bebe. I may be going out on a limb here, but I actually loved Natalie's Lanvin dress. I adore the bold pink and I thought the fan-train worked well on her petite figure.

5. Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang: Sofia in a fitted dress? No surprise. Sofia in Vera Wang? No surprise. Sofia killing it? No surprise. Seriously, I don't know what I'm more envious of—that dress or that figure.

1. Alexander McQueen: This was my favorite look from the recent McQueen collection so I'm tightly crossing my fingers that it makes it out this award season. It would take someone with major style cajones to pull it off, but the results would be absolutely glorious.
2. Elie Saab: I'm expecting a lot of Elie's spring looks to make it on the red carpet. Just look at the way it photographs!
3. Jason Wu: This dress needs a red carpet moment. And the Oscars would be the perfect place for it. I picture a fresh-faced star like Emma Stone.
4. Jenny Packham: Packham does quiet elegance like no other, which is why it's no surprise that royal style queen, Kate Middleton, adores her designs. I would love to see this beaded red number at the Oscars.
5. Marchesa: I'm dying to see a style risk-taker try out this beaded gown on the red carpet. Perhaps a style star like Evan Rachel Wood?
6. Matthew Williamson: This tangy shade is sure to make a statement.
7. Oscar de la Renta: Pictures don't even begin to do this dress justice. It's a long-shot but I want to see a petite star like Natalie Portman pull this elegant look off.
8. Prabal Gurung: I can't help but love a beaded purple gown. I expect Prabal to be all over the red carpet this award season.
9. Zac Posen: Red on the red carpet looks perfectly elegant when done with just the right silhouette.
10. Temperley: Yes, it's a stretch, but I think with the right accessories, this look could really come to life.

1. Zac Posen: Could you just imagine a curvy bombshell like Christina Hendricks in this? Va-va-voom.
2. Badgley Mischka: I think a more casual, romantic look would work perfectly at the SAGs.
3. Gucci: The SAGs is the perfect time to break out a shorter hem. I picture edgy star Rooney Mara in this look.
4. J. Mendel: Simple elegance at its best.
5. Monique Lhuillier: Okay, so I'm slightly cheating because this is from her Pre-Fall 2012 collection. But seriously. Someone needs to rock this.
6. Lela Rose: It's a little younger and definitely fun. I'm talking to you, Elle Fanning.
7. Marchesa: Sexy and elegant. What's not to love?
8. Prabal Gurung: He's been quite the favorite among the who's who of Hollywood these days. Maybe Mila Kunis will brave Prabal again?
9. Rachel Zoe: I went BA-NA-NAS for her collection. I would love to see one of her gowns make it to a high-profile red carpet.
10. Carolina Herrera: Isn't it getting obvious that I'm pushing hard for this color? :)

Gilles Mendel said he was inspired by "unapologetic luxury" and boy does it show. The J. Mendel pre-fall 2012 collection was rife with luxe fabrics (read: fur, fur, fur) and show-stopping gowns. The gowns in particular were my favorite—I'm totally dying for Cate Blanchett to rock the long-sleeved draped number. This collection is getting me totally excited to see his fall collection. Just a few more weeks to Fashion Week!

Award season kicks off this Sunday with the Golden Globes. This will be followed by the SAGs. And then the Oscars. This is practically our version of March Madness! Apart from Fashion Week, this is my favorite time of the year. Granted, I'll be working every single event this year so I may begin to hate it, but there's always been something inherently wonderful about seeing high-fashion designs come to life on the red carpet. And at these events, the stylists come out in full force.

I've chosen various dresses from the recent Spring 2012 collections that I would most like to see this award season. Check out my picks!

Golden Globes

1. Monique Lhuillier: Fishtail hems seem to be all the rage on the red carpet so I'd be curious to see this trend translated for a high-profile red carpet. The texture would photograph wonderfully as well.
2. Oscar de la Renta: Chartreuse was the color of the spring shows. The gown may be simple but the color would do all the talking. I can totally see Kristin Wiig rocking this look.
3. Ralph Lauren: The Gatsby-inspired collection was probably my favorite Ralph Lauren collection to date. This particular dress would be a great show stopper for a younger starlet like Lea Michele or Sarah Hyland.
4. Valentino: I love a chic Valentino-red gown. Here's to hoping that we see a style queen like Zoe Saldana in this.
5. Versace: This dress is practically screaming JENNIFER LOPEZ.
6. Zac Posen: I'm dying to see one of Zac's mermaid dresses walk the red carpet. You listening, Charlize?
7. Elie Saab: We've seen a few of Elie's green gowns from the spring collection but not any of the yellow. This gorgeous shade would be like a ray of sunshine on the red carpet!
8. Emanuel Ungaro: This dress may seem unconventional, but that's exactly what I picture for a style risk-taker like Emma Stone.
9. Jenny Packham: I loved the fresh colors in her collection. I'm hoping that a sexy and sophisticated star like Rose Byrne opts for this look.
10. L'Wren Scott: A dress with this silhouette is just asking for an hourglass figure like Kate Winslet's.

On a side note: Outfit posts are coming back, I promise. I just got back from my trip back home and it was a whirlwind to say the least. My dad had a pretty bad injury the day before I got back home for the holidays, so the majority of my trip was spent in the hospital with him. I've loved Jason Wu ever since Michelle stepped out in that gorgeous one-shoulder gown at the Inaugural Ball. This boy wonder is going to give Oscar de la Renta a run for his money as the go-to sartorialist for luxe ladylike wear.

That said, I cannot wait for Jason Wu for Target to hit stores. The collection looks incredibly fun and flirty and I'm dying to nab a few key pieces. The fit-and-flare dresses are a must-have and I imagine that the striped blouse will work quite nicely in my closet.

I have an obsession with nail polish. I recently caught myself loading up on colors at Sephora and then realizing, Wait, don't I have this color already? It's a sickness, y'all.

Essie's spring lineup is looking quite fab. The green and the lilac are on my wishlist and I'm definitely intrigued by the bright orange shade seeing as Tangerine Tango was named as the color of the season.

Monique Lhullier's pre-fall 2012 collection was downright lovely. From the romantic lace detailing to the deep purples to the show-stopping gowns, I complete fell in love with the entire collection. It's safe to say that my style aesthetic is pretty damn girly. Flowers? Done. Pink? Done. Ruffles? DONE.

Also, while I do love those Steve Madden heels because they get me to normal people height, they are killer. Every time I wear them, I come dangerously close to severely twisting my ankle. Passion for fashion, y'all.

Remember when Blair Waldorf was rocking those wicked headbands on Gossip Girl and it seemed like you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting someone with floral headgear on? Well I do. And boy was I eager to tap into the raging trend. Result: I have an embarrassing amount of floral-accented headbands that are sitting in a box under my bed.

In a joint effort to shop my own closet and give the top knot another try, I opted for a high loose bun paired with a navy blue satin floral headband. What do you think y'all? Does it work or do I just look like a grown woman trying to look like this:

Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2012 Review

Anyone that knows me knows that I am obsessed with Oscar de la Renta. The man is a genius. So while I fully intended on waking up early to catch the live streaming of Oscar de la Renta's Pre-Fall 2012 collection, like a Class-A goober, I slept through my snooze button. Fail whale.

Thankfully for OscarPRGirl, I was still able to watch the full show on their fab Tumblr page.

As expected, the show was magnificent. In my opinion, no one does ladylike luxe quite like Oscar. The collection was the perfect prequel to the darkly chic looks I expect from his Fall 2012 show. Unexpected pops of Bordeaux reds and girly pinks were the perfect punctuation to Oscar's elegant and classic silhouettes.

Happy Monday! This weekend went by far too quickly. Between getting ready for my big trip and catching up on much-needed errands, it was Sunday before I knew it!

How Crafty

Aaron and I have been living in this apartment for over four months now but we still aren't quite finished decorating the place. While my bedroom has been quite thoroughly girly-fied, (there isn't a single flat surface without a vase) the common areas are still rather bare. So a few weeks ago, I became fixated on the idea to create some simple and cute pieces to hang on our wall. I've been inspired by a lot of chevron prints lately and while the search for the perfect chevron-printed shirt/dress is still in progress, I decided to add a punch of whimsy and color with a few canvas prints. I decided on three of my favorite colors, a deep purple, pale lavender and mint-green.

Sometimes I get into unexplainable frenzies where I feel the need the urge to cook or clean or to a neurotic degree. So at about eleven on a Tuesday night, I was bored enough to start on this project and I couldn't stop. Before I knew it, it was two in the morning and I was sitting on an old towel in the middle of my room, in a mess of spilled paint and dirty paintbrushes. Pathetic, I know.

I'm certainly not an artist at all, so it goes to show how simple this project really was... ;) It ended up better than I was expecting, so I'm planning on creating another piece for my momma's office as a personalized Christmas present.

I started off with three smaller-sized canvases.

My make-shift paint palette... Janky, I know.

It took about a million layers (read: seven) of this gold paint to create the perfect background.

While I was at it, I also created another piece with my favorite Chanel quote.

No one says it quite like Chanel.

I once read that throwing on a dress in the morning takes just as little thought as throwing on sweats. I couldn't agree more! Those mornings that I've hit the snooze button one too many times, I simply throw on one of my go-to dresses for a quick pulled-together look. (I'm saving up for a DVF wrap dress for this exact reason.)

Also, it's clear from this post that I have an obsession with stripes and Adele. In equal measure.

I remember where I was and exactly what I was doing when I found out about Alexander McQueen's tragic death. It was such a shocking moment and I felt so incredibly sad for not only the life lost but what the fashion world lost as well—a true talent.

That being said, Sarah Burton has done a remarkable job taking over the reigns of the iconic brand. If you're a fan of the Alexander McQueen fashion house, this video is a must-see.

3. Nothing says romance to me like the perfect vintage-inspired lace frock. This silk-chiffon blouse from Tibi is sheer perfection!

4. I love Fresh products—I don't remember what life was like before their sugar lip balm. So I'm pretty sure my bath-time experience will not be complete until I have their Sugar Lemon shower gel.

5. No one can quite soothe an aching heart quite like Adele. I cannot wait for the release of her live performance. Plus, I've been listening to the Glee mash-up of "Rumor Has It/Someone Like You" on repeat for the past week.

6. I used to think it was ridiculous to pay $14 for a bottle of nail polish, but I am now a Butter-believer. The colors are simply to die for. The "Wallis" dark gold shade is going to be just the right touch of sparkle for those holiday soirees.

Words cannot describe how excited I was to finally get my hands on the 3.1 Phillip Lim satchel! Between the rich ink blue and the gorgeous pebbled leather, I am so tremendously happy with this purchase. I've been looking for a more mature purse to incorporate into my work wardrobe and I think this is just the perfect piece!

Weather Woes

California weather has been great to me. In fact, it's been absolutely fantastic. Up to just a few weeks ago, I was spending most Saturday and Sunday afternoons hanging by the pool. (It's a tough life, I know.) So of course the one weekend that I had an Arkansassy in town to visit, it rained. Every day. All weekend. Cold, biting rain.

I'm sure the whole time he was thinking, Wow, Bernikins. You were totally lying when you said that Cali weather was amazing. I am never coming back here ever again. Actually, at one point he actually told me that the rain was "total bullshit." Agreed, son. Total bullshit it was.

So due the dreary weather all weekend, there was no time for outfit pictures this weekend. Which is sad considering I have a new haircolor to debut and an exiting new purchase. Oh well, let's cross our fingers for sunny days next week!

Also, I kept expecting Ryan Gosling to show and for this to happen. It didn't. Weird.

I love doing my nails—it's such a great opportunity to experiment with a trend without the big commitment! I've been noticing a lot of great glitter nail art recently and was eager to try it out for myself. As a fan of the classic french manicure, I decided to ease into the glitter trend with a modified version of the classic french white tips.

I used Essie in 'Eternal Optimist' and Orly in 'Tiara.'

I started off with two thick layers of the base color and finished off the look with a light layer of the glitter polish at the tips—don't worry about it being perfectly straight, the jagged look works with the glitter.

A top clear coat to seal the color in and a quick-drying spray to finish it off!

I'm ashamed to admit that the sequined skirt was an impulse purchase... It just seemed too decadent not to! I'm hoping that it'll bring lots of sparkle to those dreary fall days. :) My office's dress code isn't terribly formal so thankfully, this glittering pencil skirt will be seeing many office days!

This J. Crew silk top comes in so many gorgeous colors that it was quite difficult to narrow it down to one. I chose this gorgeous 'graffiti green' because I realized that most of my button-ups tend to be in boring neutral colors. Snag your own here!
